[ on audacity]
My grandmother is my hero. For many reasons, but not least of which is that she came over here to America to follow her dreams of becoming a fashion designer all by herself when she was the same age as I am now.
I wrote about her, about her dreams, about her audacity, about white men, about my own fears and anxieties and insecurities in an essay posted up at VIDA's website.
Hope you all have a chance to read it.
Thank you to Janine Joseph for recommending me to VIDA, and to Emily Brandt for her patience as I kept getting sick and pushing off the deadline to submit to her, and for ultimately giving this piece a home.
